I make yurts in the UK, using natural materials, and using sustainable coppice. My carbon footprint is very low in a very real way.

I make yurts using traditional green wood-working techniques in the Welsh borders. My materials are sourced locally from various well-maintained woodland, using coppiced ash and sweet chestnut. The wood generally cleaved into two or four, using a fro and a cleaving brake. Once shaped with a draw-knife, it is steambent in a steambox and set in a former. Once set it is oiled with raw linseed oil, thinned with natural citrus thinners.

Trellis are strung, rib tips are shaped and wheel halves are joined with oak pegs. The holes in the wheel are drilled out using an auger and then burt to a square taper using a forge and a carrot. Hazel wheel spars finish off what is a very pleasing thing indeed.

Door frames are properly jointed, and groundsheets are made to fit, using heat welded heavy duty pvc plastic. Canvas covers are made to fit, using proper french seams and good quality eyelets, pop-studs, toggle catches etc. Clear pvc windows and star cover let light in in the daytime.

Some yurts can come with lovely linings and insulation, also wood-burners depending on the situation. Outer coloured cotton wall linings are also soon to be available.

I know lots of people who have all manner of yurts, suitable for every sort of occasion imaginable. Enormous 60ft yurts, 35ft yurts, the Gertch, yurts in Holland, Brazil, Canada, whatever it is you are after yurts wise, i can almost certainly help, please get in touch!

"Book a yurt at a festival, or for your private event, get in touch for helpful advice regarding yurts."

Yurts can come in almost any size. They provide airy, light, shady spaces in the summer, and cosy, warm, womb-like havens of cosiness in the winter.

The frames are hand-made from coppiced ash and sweet chestnut, cleaved and draw-knifed by hand and then steam-bent, finished and oiled using linseed oil, thinned with natural citrus thinners. The door-frames and wheels are made to a very high quality, involving input from other very well experienced cabinet makers and yurt builders. The walls are sturdy, useful for hanging your bags on, and for leaning against when relaxing.
